Georgina Phillips

Clinical Lead – Emergency Care

Dr Georgina Phillips is an emergency physician with over 25 years of experience at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne, where she has focused on clinical excellence and research for patients with complex psychosocial issues. Her global health journey began in 1996 as an Australian Volunteer doctor in Kiribati, marking the start of her deep commitment to improving emergency care in low-resource settings across the Asia-Pacific region, including Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Fiji, Timor-Leste, and Myanmar.


Georgina’s work in global health extends beyond clinical care to capacity development, where she has been instrumental in training and mentoring local healthcare professionals. She has facilitated numerous Primary Trauma Care courses, supported the professional development of trainee emergency physicians, and hosted Pacific health professionals in Melbourne, fostering knowledge exchange and collaboration.


Her research interests focus on the intersection of emergency care and global health, particularly concerning patients with mental illness, substance abuse, and social vulnerability. Through her extensive publications, Georgina has contributed significantly to understanding these complex issues in diverse settings.


In recognition of her impactful work, Dr. Phillips received the 2023 International Federation for Emergency Medicine (IFEM) Humanitarian Award. As a former Chair of ACEM’s Global Emergency Care Committee (GECCo), she continues to play a pivotal role in advancing global health, particularly in strengthening emergency care systems in the Pacific.
