Clinical Lead – Critical Care – Timor-Leste Stream

Benjamin Dingle RN is the Critical Care Team Lead for Timor-Leste under the Regional Emergency and Critical Care Systems Strengthening Initiative (RECSI) and an Intensive Care and Emergency Nurse with the Menzies School of Health Research. With a longstanding commitment to Timor-Leste’s healthcare system, Benjamin has been instrumental in supporting critical care and emergency services across the country.

Benjamin first worked in Timor-Leste during the INTERFET deployment and later returned to serve at the National Referral Hospital (HNGV) through St John of God HealthCare. Over seven years, he contributed as a nurse, educator, and manager, helping to develop the skills of local healthcare workers in Timor’s National Referral Hospital.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Benjamin played a key role as a COVID-19 Technical Advisor with Menzies School of Health Research, assisting with organisational and clinical work in isolation and treatment centres, and helping to establish professional development rotations between HNGV and the country’s regional hospitals.

Ben is also an Honorary Clinical Fellow with the Australian Catholic University and is conducting research with Menzies/ACU on the impact of low-resource health systems on nurses' and midwives' confidence, competence, and systemic challenges in providing patient care.
