Overview
If you are working in Timor-Leste or a Pacific Island Country, then you may be eligible for a fully funded scholarship through the Regional Emergency and Critical Care Systems Strengthening Initiative (RECSI) to participate in an Alfred Emergency Academic Centre (AEAC) course of your choosing.
To apply for a scholarship, please review the eligibility criteria and complete an expression of interest form. You will be required to specify and prioritise the courses you wish to apply for, and provide a detailed explanation of how it will contribute to your professional development.
All courses will be delivered online, including virtual tutorials via Zoom. There is no requirement for in-person attendance at any courses or events in Australia.

Activity Details
Emergency Leadership and Management - (Suitable for senior doctors and healthcare leaders)
This 12-week course is designed to help healthcare professionals develop strong leadership skills in emergency and trauma settings. You’ll gain practical knowledge on how to manage emergency care processes, improve service delivery, and lead teams effectively in high-pressure environments. Through real-world examples and applied learning, you’ll explore essential topics like clinical leadership, pre-hospital systems, data-driven decision-making and quality improvement.
Capacity Building in Global Emergency Care (Suitable for all emergency care clinicians)
This course equips emergency care professionals with the skills to improve healthcare systems in low-resource settings. You’ll learn to design, implement, and evaluate emergency care programs while developing hospital and pre-hospital services. The course also focuses on training urgently needed clinical and non-clinical staff and establishing sustainable systems and networks to deliver life-saving care. By the end, you’ll be prepared to lead and support emergency care initiatives where they’re needed most.
Emergency Medicine Course – Core (Suitable for doctors, nurse practitioners and other clinicians who provide medical care independently)
This course offers valuable insights into the fast-paced and dynamic world of emergency care. Through this course, you will build a strong foundation in emergency medicine, gaining the knowledge and confidence to manage common conditions seen in emergency departments. You’ll also explore how emergency care systems work and learn essential patient management strategies. This course is ideal for those looking to develop their emergency medicine expertise and enhance their clinical confidence.
Emergency Medicine Course - Advanced (Suitable for medical staff with at least three years of clinical experience in emergency care)
This advanced course equips emergency care professionals with the skills to manage critically ill and injured patients. Taught by expert emergency and trauma clinicians, it covers resuscitation, critical care, trauma, and emergencies across cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, neurological, obstetric, paediatric, psychiatric, and toxicology fields. With a strong focus on evidence-based techniques, you’ll refine advanced diagnostic and procedural skills in a practical setting. By the end, you’ll be prepared to handle complex emergency cases with confidence.
Empowered Emergency Nurse Leadership (Nursing)The Empowered Emergency Nurse Leadership (EENL) program is designed for emergency nurses ready to step into leadership roles or strengthen their existing skills. This program will give you the confidence, knowledge, and practical tools to take the next step into leadership. Led by experienced emergency nurse leaders and managers, the course blends theory with real-world insights to help you build leadership capability in a fast-paced emergency setting.
Clinical Support & Education Program (suitable for senior nurses and clinical educators)
The Clinical Support and Education (CSE) Program is designed for senior nurses who want to strengthen their skills in clinical education and mentorship. If you're passionate about supporting colleagues, guiding students, and fostering professional growth, this program will give you the confidence and expertise to excel as a nurse educator. You’ll learn how to deliver both formal and informal education, develop leadership skills to support your team, and connect with like-minded educators across the region. With a focus on practical, real-world application, this program bridges the gap in formal training for nurse educators, helping you advance your career and open new professional opportunities.
Who can apply
Applications are open to emergency care clinicians working in Timor-Leste, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Kiribati, Samoa, Tonga, Republic of Marshall Islands, Palau, Niue, Federated States of Micronesia, Nauru and Tuvalu.
To apply for a scholarship, you must:
Be an emergency care clinician who is a citizen of, and practicing in, one of the eligible countries listed above
Be sufficiently fluent in English (including medical English to a high standard) to engage with course learning materials and discussions
Have access to a computer with an internet connection to allow you to engage with course learning materials and discussions
Have the support of your employer to engage in this training

Expressions of interest for courses offered between July 2026 to June 2027 close on Sunday 3rd of May 2026 at 11:59pm Australian Eastern Standard Time (UTC +10).
All applications will be assessed by the relevant RECSI working group (Timor-Leste, Papua New Guinea or Pacific). This process will involve consultation with RECSI’s implementing partner for the relevant geographical stream. Successful applicants will be notified of the outcome in late May 2026.
