The Regional Emergency and Critical Care Systems Strengthening Initiative (RECSI) invites medical and nursing professionals working in Critical Care and Emergency Care across the Pacific to apply for Pacific Clinical Observerships that will take place in either Australia (emergency and critical care) or Fiji (emergency care only).
The Australian-based program offers a 2-week clinical observership opportunity in August to October 2026, including the possibility of attending local emergency or critical care conferences. The timing of the Fiji-based program will be confirmed in early 2026 around key training and conference opportunities.
Activities are observational (no clinical practice) and based in both clinical and professional development settings.

Activity Details
Who Can Apply:
Those currently employed in a clinical (e.g. nursing, medical), educational, or leadership role in emergency or critical care.
Applications are open to emergency and critical care clinicians working in the Pacific region from the following countries: Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, or Vanuatu*.
Pre-Requisites:
Applicants must meet a range of criteria regarding their clinical role, experience and ability to participate. To apply for a scholarship, you must:
Be able to participate in the observership during the proposed dates.
Be at least 18 years old
Not hold or applying for Australian permanent residency
Be able to travel without dependents
Meet visa and English proficiency requirements for the host country
Meet health requirements for the host hospital
Obtain support from the Permanent Secretary of the national Ministry of Health via a letter of support, committing to ensure clinical coverage during the observer’s absence.
